Dovetail

Dovetail joinery is an excellent choice for timber urn boxes because it provides exceptional strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The interlocking "pins" and "tails" create a strong mechanical bond that prevents the box from pulling apart, and the large surface area for glue further enhances its integrity. The joint also serves as a visible mark of fine craftsmanship, showcasing the skill and artistry involved in the creation of the box.

Mitres and Splines

Mitres with splines are a great option for timber urn boxes because they combine the elegant, continuous wood grain of a mitre joint with the added strength from the splines. The splines, which are thin strips of wood, cross the joint line, reinforcing the typically weak mitre joint by adding long-grain to long-grain contact. They also offer an attractive decorative element, especially when a contrasting wood is used, and prevent the joint from completely failing if dropped or stressed.

Half Lap

Half lap joinery is a good option for timber memorial urns because it provides a strong, large surface for gluing that resists twisting. A well-made half lap joint is aesthetically pleasing as it creates a seamless, clean look with the edges of the urn’s sides flush and even with each other Add a touch of colour with contrasting timber and the njoint really "Comes Alive"
